The Main Production Process of Artificial Leather

Artificial leather is widely used in the fields of shoes, clothing, home decoration, etc. In its production, calendering and coating are the two key processes.

1.Calendering

Firstly, prepare materials by uniformly mixing PVC resin powder, plasticizers, stabilizers, fillers, and other additives according to the formula. Next, the mixed materials are fed into the internal mixer, where they are plasticized into uniform and flowable lumps under high temperature and strong shear force. Subsequently, the material is sent to the open mill, and as the rollers continue to rotate, the material is repeatedly squeezed and stretched, forming continuous thin sheets. This sheet is then fed into a multi roll rolling mill, where the temperature, speed, and spacing of the rollers need to be precisely controlled. The material is rolled layer by layer between the rollers to produce a semi-finished product with uniform thickness and smooth surface. Finally, after a series of processes such as lamination, printing, embossing, and cooling, the production is completed.

2.Coating

Firstly, it is necessary to prepare a coating slurry by mixing PVC paste resin, plasticizers, stabilizers, pigments, etc., and using a scraper or roller coating equipment to evenly coat the slurry on it. The scraper can accurately control the thickness and flatness of the coating. The coated base fabric is sent into an oven, and under suitable temperature conditions, the PVC paste resin undergoes plasticization. The coating is tightly bonded to the base fabric, forming a tough skin. After cooling and surface treatment, the finished product has rich colors and diverse textures, which are commonly used in fashion fields such as clothing and luggage.
